A female patient has been airlifted to hospital following a serious collision in Carlisle.
An air ambulance was called to the collision on West Tower Street, involving a van and two pedestrians.
Officers were called shortly before 1pm today and have since closed the road.
The road may be closed for some time whilst investigations are conducted, a police spokesman said.
Congestion is to be expected in the area and road users are advised to plan their routes accordingly.
A spokesman for the Great North Air Ambulance Service said: “We are currently in attendance in Carlisle city centre after a road traffic collision.”
The air ambulance was seen landing on the grass outside Carlisle Castle. One female patient was airlifted to hospital.
Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service are also in attendance.
