Work is due to start next week to strengthen a Lake District road.
The A591 at Holbeck Bridge, between Windermere and Ambleside, will have a new reinforced concrete slab installed under the road to replace a defective one and replace a deteriorating wooden footbridge upstream of the road bridge.
It follows temporary work last October 2020 to strengthen the road bridge.
Work is scheduled to start on Wednesday March 10 and is expected to be completed by Friday March 26, subject to favourable weather conditions.
From am on Wednesday to 8pm on Thursday, a lane will be closed and two-way traffic lights will be in operation.
From 8pm on Thursday until 7am on Friday, the road will be closed to all vehicles and a diversion will be in place.
From 7am to 8pm on Friday, a lane will be closed and two-way traffic lights will be in operation and the road will be closed overnight from Friday at 8pm until Saturday at 7am. A diversion will be in operation.
From Monday March 15 to Friday March 26, traffic lights will be in place.
The county council said the work had been timed before the Easter holidays to minimise disruption to road users, the local community and visitors to the area, subject to COVID-19 restrictions.
Councillor Keith Little, Cumbria County Council cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “The county council is carrying out these essential highway repairs to strengthen the road and restore full load-carrying capacity.
“The new concrete slab would normally be constructed on site, but in order to keep disruption to a minimum our contractor will cast the slab off site in a controlled environment and lift it into place overnight.
“This project will improve resilience on an important strategic route, and I’d like to thank people for their patience and understanding while the works are carried out.”
