Five flood alerts and one warning remain in force after heavy rain in Cumbria.
The Environment Agency has a flood warning – which means flooding is expected and immediate action is required – in place for Keswick Campsite.
It states: “Levels on Derwentwater remain very high at the Lodore Gauge as a result of the heavy rainfall earlier this week.
“Further heavy rainfall is forecast late Friday and over into Saturday, potentially keeping the level of Derwentwater above flood warning. As a result, we do not expect levels to drop below the flood warning level until later into the weekend.
“Flooding is expected to continue to affect low lying areas bordering the shores of Derwentwater and to the frontage of low lying areas of the Keswick Camping and Caravan Club Site.
“We continue to closely monitor the situation. Please avoid using low lying footpaths around the edge of Derwentwater and nearby rivers.”
Flood alerts – which mean flooding is possible and be prepared – are also in force for the following areas:
- Lower River Eden – “River levels are forecast to rise at the Linstock river gauge during Saturday morning in response to persistent heavy rainfall expected overnight.
“Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is expected. Flooding is expected to affect low-lying land and roads in the Crosby-on-Eden, Linstock, Carlisle and Rockcliffe areas.
“High river levels are possible on the River Eden, River Caldew, River Petteril, Durranhill Beck, Brunstock Beck, Gosling Sike, Little Caldew, Parham Beck, Rockcliffe Beck and their tributaries.
“River levels will remain high until this rain has passed. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our staff are clearing debris screens. Please avoid contact with floodwater and avoid low-lying roads and footpaths near rivers.” - Rivers Caldew and Petteril – “River levels are forecast to rise at the Stockdalewath and Cummersdale river gauges during early Saturday morning in response to persistent heavy rainfall expected overnight into Saturday.
“Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is expected. Flooding is expected to affect low-lying land and roads in the Millhouse, Caldbeck, Sebergham, Ivegill, Stockdalewath, Dalston, Cummersdale, Denton Holme, Greystoke, Plumpton, Upperby and Harraby Green areas.
“High river levels are possible on the River Caldew, Cald Beck, River Ive, River Roe, North Petteril, River Petteril and their tributaries.
“River levels will remain high until this rain has passed. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our staff are clearing debris screens. Please avoid contact with floodwater and avoid low-lying roads and footpaths near rivers.” Upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwentwater – “Whilst river levels have started to recede, albeit slowly, the levels on Derwent Water and the River Derwent remain high. Consequently, low lying land adjacent to Derwent Water shoreline areas remain affected by flooding.
“Levels on the River Derwent and Derwent Water are expected to remain high over the next few days as a result of the rainfall earlier this week. Some further rainfall is forecast late on today and overnight into Saturday.
“Some further response from rivers, becks and Derwentwater is expected during the early hours and into Saturday morning. We continue to closely monitor the situation.
“Please avoid using low lying footpaths around the edge of Derwentwater and the River Derwent.”Upper River Eden – “River levels are forecast to rise at the Appleby river gauge during early Saturday morning as a result of persistent heavy rainfall expected overnight. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is expected.
“Flooding is expected to affect low lying land and roads in the Ravenstonedale, Kirkby Stephen, Brough, Warcop, Great Asby, Great Ormside, Appleby-in-Westmorland, Bolton, Crosby Ravensworth and Morland areas.
“High river levels are possible on the River Eden, Scandal Beck, Swindale Beck, Crooks Beck, Asby Beck, River Lyvennet, Morland Beck and their tributaries. The level of the Eden is not expected to get as high as it did earlier in the week but will remain high until rain has passed.
“We are closely monitoring the situation. Our staff are clearing debris screens. Please avoid contact with floodwater and avoid low-lying roads and footpaths near rivers.”Rivers Brathay, Rothay and Winster – “Whilst river levels are generally receding, levels on Windermere and on the River Leven at Newby Bridge remain high as a result of rainfall earlier this week.
“Consequently, some flooding to low-lying land remains around Windermere due to high lake levels and high levels on nearby rivers including the Rivers Rothay, Brathay, Leven, Rusland Pool, Eea, Winster and their tributaries.
“Some further heavy rainfall is forecast late on today over into Saturday which may prompt some further response from rivers and streams and keep the level of Windermere high.
“We continue to closely monitor the situation. Please avoid using low lying footpaths around the shores of Windermere and near rivers.”
