The community are being invited to take part in a yarn bombing event in West Cumbria.
Workington Town Council is inviting the community to get involved with the event in Vulcan Park.
Yarn bombing involves creating colourful displays in public spaces using handmade knitted or crocheted textile pieces. The fabric is then attached to trees, fences, and benches to make large creative outdoor displays.
The event has been organised to mark Mental Health Awareness Week which takes place from May 10 to May 16.
Individuals can get involved by donating knitted or crocheted squares or by making pom-poms. Groups or clubs can adopt a tree or bench so they can work together to make a larger display.
Carole Armstrong, chairwoman of Workington Town Council’s culture committee said: “It has been a very difficult year and many people are being affected by mental health concerns.
“This project is a small way to bring colour and fun into everyday life. We hope that it will put a smile on people’s faces and help promote Mental Health Awareness Week.”
Donations can be dropped off at the following collection points:
From April 5 there will be a collection point in Vulcan Park, in the form of a purple bin.
Available now, is a collection point in the reception area of the Citizen’s Advice Bureau in the Town Hall on Oxford Street.
Both collections points will be available Monday – Friday, 9am – 4pm.
Groups that would like to ‘adopt’ a tree or bench should contact the town council for more information.
