Police and Crime Commissioner, Peter McCall

Peter McCall has been re-elected as the police and crime commissioner for Cumbria.

Mr McCall was re-elected today following an election across Cumbria and will serve as the police and crime commissioner for the next three years, following five years in the role.

As PCC, Mr McCall will have the responsibilities of setting the policing priorities to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour, holding the chief constable to account and engage with communities including commissioning of services to support victims of crime.

Mr McCall said: “It is an honour to be re-elected as the new Police and Crime Commissioner for Cumbria. I want to thank the public for voting for me and I hope to meet more residents once I am able to.

“Over the past five years, I believe we have made a difference in Cumbria, including increasing police numbers, placing officers back in to our rural communities, setting up a dedicated cyber and digital crime unit and providing services to all victims of crime including those who have suffered domestic abuse.

“I’m looking forward to continuing the work that we’ve focused on over the last five years and implementing my priorities from my election manifesto including: streamlining blue light services; being in Cumbria’s communities to give all residents a voice; providing victims of crime with support; ensuring police are at the forefront of the response; increasing police Officer numbers; and raising awareness on cyber-crime, rural crime and anti-social driving.

“I continue to believe in the ‘we – not they’ approach to tackling crime and I hope to continue to work with services, partners and communities to make Cumbria an even safer place to live, work and visit.”
