Maryport is set to get an £11.5 million boost for its high street, thanks to the Government.

The cash is part of the Future High Streets Fund and will be used to support the town’s local economy.

Plans include a new multifunctional market and events space, community hub, leisure centre and gallery.

In total, 72 English high streets will share over £830 million, with 57 of these areas, including Maryport and Carlisle, announced today.

The funding is part of the Government’s plan to protect, support and create thousands of jobs in a range of industries, delivering opportunities and prosperity to communities across England.

The Future High Streets Fund was launched in December 2018 and is a key part of this Government’s plan to renew and reshape town centres – making them a more attractive place to live, work and visit.
