A festival will be held in Millom and Haverigg to give people the chance to talk about their health and wellbeing to professionals.

The four-week Choice is Yours Festival starts on May 31 and will be held from 10am to 3pm, Monday to Friday at the following venues:

  • Week 1: Haverigg Cricket Club, Haverigg, Monday 31 May – Friday 4 June
  • Week 2: Millom Rugby Union Football Club, Haverigg Monday 7 June – Friday 11 June
  • Week 3: Millom Rugby League Football Club, Coronation Field, Devonshire Road, Millom Monday 14 June – Friday 18 June
  • Week 4: Millom Cricket Club, Millom, Monday 21 June – Saturday 26 June

There will be activities for all ages including arts and crafts, smoothie making and cooking classes.

Advice stalls and workshops will be on offer from a range of organisations including West Cumbria Carers, Hope and Cope, Mind Furness and Men in Sheds.

Inspirational speaker Kevin Porter will carry out group and individual sessions on addiction, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, depression and anxiety.

Jenny Riley, development lead for Millom Integrated Care Community, said: “We are thrilled to be able to bring such a large and exciting festival to Millom and Haverigg this year.

“There are some really exciting stalls and guest speakers to make sure there is something for everyone. We have split the festival over four sites to ensure everyone has the opportunity to visit us at least once.

“This has taken a phenomenal amount of organising and planning and we hope the community thoroughly enjoy it.”

Dr Andy Knox, director of population health and engagement for Bay Health and Care Partners, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people living in Millom to talk to health, care and community professionals about how they can improve their physical and mental health and wellbeing.”

The festival, which is free, has been organised by Millom ICC in partnership with Cumbria County Council, Copeland Borough Council, Active Cumbria, Around the Combe Volunteers and a patient participation group.
