The Cumberland has won the Moneyfacts regional lending provider of the year award.
Independent ratings agency Moneyfacts announced the award at an online event Tuesday.
The Cumberland came top in the category after its range of mortgages was compared with those of other lenders across the UK.
Moneyfacts is known as an independent and accurate source of data on the UK financial sector with the information it produces used by organisations including the Bank of England, the Financial Conduct Authority and HM Treasury.
Its awards are regarded as one of the highlights for the finance industry, but the ceremony had to be held online this year because of the pandemic.
Phil Ward, brand manager for The Cumberland, said: “We are particularly proud to win this award for the third year in a row. The winners of the Moneyfacts awards are chosen based on rigorous product monitoring by its research team and so this win is a direct reflection of the real service and choice we are providing.
“It’s been a tough year for many of our customers, but we’re proud to have been able to support them over the last 12 months and to continue to do so as we begin the recovery from the coronavirus crisis.”
This week The Cumberland revealed in its annual report the full extent of the help it offered to mortgage holders and businesses during the pandemic in its annual report, which it has released this week.
More than 10 per cent of mortgage customers took a payment holiday with many of those 2,000 residential customers also needing additional overdrafts and mortgage offer extensions.
