Hensingham have earned themselves a place at the North East RL Under-16s Cup Final on July 11.
The West Cumbrian youngsters will take on either Gateshead Storm or Yarm Wolves in the final which is to be played at Newcastle Thunder’s Kingston Park Stadium ahead of the Championship game that day.
They earned the prestigious spot with victory over Cramlington Rockets, going over the try line eleven times for a convincing 60-18 triumph.
The game was played on Newcastle Falcons’ training field in the shadow of Kingston Park stadium, and Hensingham started off very well with Tom McKinney crashing over the line and Luca Hiddleston converting for a six point lead with just three minutes on the clock.
Three minutes later Devan Sharp set up James Mattinson who dived over the whitewash for an excellent try, again converted by Hiddleston.
Hensingham pushed on and Miller Dalton used his strength to break through the Rocket’s defensive line and touch down under the posts.
Hiddleston was next on the scoresheet powering through to score.
Keelan McKeown used his speed to break away on the wing and score before the first half scoring was completed by Fletcher Holgate, who cleverly spotted a gap between defending Rockets and darted in. Hiddleston added three more conversions for a 34-0 half time lead.
The second half started with a wake-up call as Cramlington went over for two tries in quick succession, both converted, for a far more respectable 34-12 scoreline. That didn’t last.
Hensingham moved up a gear, and Dalton went over for his second of the afternoon, Hiddleston did likewise, and then a hard working Dylan Cromwell broke through to dive in under the posts for Hensingham’s ninth try.
With Romeo Park and Scott Egan causing havoc with their speed and agility, and Sharp shining with some clever passing, the Hensingham scoring was completed with two tries from excellent pacey runs up the right wing by Egan and McKeown, and three more Hiddleston conversions.
The hosts did grab a try back with the second of two clever kicks across the face of the posts to the opposite wing to a waiting unmarked Rocketeer, again catching Hensingham off guard, but that late consolation reply did nothing to take the shine off an outstanding win.
