A day of fundraising is underway in Cleator Moor to raise funds for the local NHS.
Cleator Moor Civic Hall and Masonic Centre is holding the event to mark the 73th anniversary of the NHS.
Cakes, refreshments and a raffle are on offer until 4pm.
Mike Starkie, mayor of Copeland, was invited to raise the NHS flag to launch the event at 10am.
Mr Starkie said: “It’s a pleasure to be invited to raise the NHS flag to celebrate all health workers’ commitment and dedication to helping others.
” It’s also wonderful to support the team at the Civic Hall and Masonic Centre in their fundraising; this is just the latest example of the tremendous fundraising and community work they do.”
The group’s recent fundraising has seen them donate four blood bikes to Blood Bikes Cumbria, whose Operations Manager Graeme Thompson is in attendance today with one of the life-saving bikes purchased.
Bill Morley, chairman of the Civic Hall and Deputy Provincial Grand Master of the Cumberland and Westmorland Freemasons, said: “This is the first time we’ve held an event like this to support the NHS, and it’s right and proper that we all show our gratitude in this way.
“We are all indebted to their care and service the local NHS continues to provide; especially over the past 18 months.”
