Aspatria half-back Jack Clegg has made the final of the Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer of the Year competition.
This is a nationwide initiative that gives anyone involved in rugby the opportunity to nominate a volunteer at a grassroots rugby club, or wider rugby family, who they think deserves recognition for their commitment to the game over the last 12 months.
Jack was put forward by Aspatria for his outstanding work for the club both on an off the field for several years.
A club spokesman said that Jack started as an outstanding junior player, breaking into the 1st team squad aged 17 and he will shortly commence his 17th season of senior competition.
He said: “For several years Jack has been the go-to man for organising player social events and arranging work parties to keep Bower Park looking fresh, and is now putting these skills to further good use.
“Joining the general committee at the start of the COVID-19 crisis Jack quickly got into gear with a relaunch of the club members draw and a beer raffle.
“These brought in much needed funding but not content he then organised a crowdfunding that netted the club over £20,000.”
The finalists’ celebration event will take place on Friday August 6 starting with a welcome drinks reception and lunch.
This will be followed by a tour of the stadium, finishing with a black tie awards ceremony at Twickenham Stadium in the evening.
