Australian full-back Lachlan Walmsley, an early season star for Whitehaven, has been confirmed as Championship Player of the round for last Sunday.
Walmsley, 23, won by a landslide with 79 per cent of the vote as rival contenders James Saltonstall (Halifax), Craig Hall (Featherstone) and Brad England (Bradford) trailed well behind.
A spokesman for Whitehaven said: “Naturally we are delighted that Lachlan has won and are sure that there will be more accolades before the season is over.
“He couldn’t have had a better start to his Whitehaven career.”
Keen to impress and earn a place in the Scotland World Cup squad, Walmsley’s form for Haven has already attracted interest from clubs in Super League and the Championship.
He signed a one year deal with the Cumbrians and is proving to be a smart capture and a player with a big future.
In Sunday’s 38-22 win over Swinton Lions, Walmsley scored two tries and kicked five goals to earn the Man of the Match tag.
