The Carnegie in Workington is in need of new volunteers to dedicate some of their time to help with the reopening of the theatre after lockdown.

The Carnegie Theatre and Arts Centre in Workington has enlisted the help of Cumbria CVS to host a virtual volunteer information session on August 17 between 6pm and 7pm.

The online event, via Zoom, will provide information about the volunteering opportunities available, training, support, benefits of volunteering, the difference volunteers can make and how people can register their interest and apply to become a Carnegie Theatre volunteer.

The Carnegie is offering volunteers the chance to gain experience, share skills and knowledge, meet new people and see the benefits of volunteering in a community theatre.

Volunteering roles include being a volunteer steward in the theatre, helping in their box office in the evening with issuing tickets and office-based support roles, along with new trustees who are needed to help with business planning and support the strategic development of The Carnegie Theatre.

Michael Nutter, The Carnegie Theatre hospitality and facilities manager, said: “We are appealing for anyone interested in volunteering to register their interest with the Carnegie Theatre in Workington.

“Whether you can spare a few hours or a couple of days a week or even once a month, we ensure all our roles are Covid-secure so you can help our local theatre re-open to the community.

“We would love you to join us on August 17 to find out more about volunteering.”

Judith Smale, volunteering manager at Cumbria CVS, said: “I would encourage anyone that has some spare time and would like to make a difference in their local community and helping their local theatre through volunteering to get involved.

“The Carnegie Theatre Virtual Volunteer Information Session is a fantastic opportunity to meet the Carnegie Theatre Volunteer Recruitment Team and find out about the wide range of volunteering opportunities available.”

To register for the Carnegie Theatre Volunteering session email [email protected] or telephone Cumbria CVS on 01768 800350.
