Success at Elstob & Elstob’s jewellery, watches and silver sale

With over 200 lots of jewellery and silver from a private estate in Grange-over-Sands and luxury brands on offer from the likes of Rolex and Bulgari, the Elstob & Elstob jewellery, watches & silver sale, held on Saturday July 24, enjoyed great success.

It was a tale of two Rolex princes, in the form of a rare Rolex Prince Brancard Strap Watch (Lot 1460), circa 1929, with its attractive striped case; and its modern counterpart, the Rolex Cellini Prince (Lot 1459).

Bidding was fierce across the phones and online, with the hammer falling at £4,800 for the Rolex Prince Brancard (estimate £4,000-6,000) and £4,6000 for the Rolex Cellini Prince (estimate £3,000-4,000).

It was a small French Silver and Enamelled Snuff Box (Lot 126) that caught the attention of the silver buyers.

Circa 1905 and decorated in blue guilloche enamel, this attractive snuff box soon exceeded its modest £80-120 estimate, finally selling for £260 on the hammer.

Antique and period jewellery remains strong at auction and an Edwardian Peridot Bracelet (Lot 1574) proved very popular.

Peridot was one of the most popular gemstones of the Edwardian era and is said to protect the wearer from evil spirits and promote restfulness.

Bidding was anything but restful however! With an attractively pitched estimate of £150-200 the competition was strong, with the Edwardian bracelet finally selling for £550 online.

Luxury designer jewellery brands also enjoyed huge success at Elstob & Elstob.

Lovers of the ever-popular Happy Diamonds range by Chopard were wooed by a vintage Chopard Happy Diamond and Black Onyx Pendant on Chain (Lot 1731), which sold to a private bidder in the room for £750 hammer against an estimate of £600-800.

A Bulgari Reva Collection Ring and a matching pair of Bulgari Earrings, in 18ct gold and pavé-set with diamonds (Lots 1732 and 1733) both found a new home with a delighted private room bidder who beat off fierce competition from the six internet platforms to get the hammer down at £1,400 and £1,100 respectively (estimates £1,000-1,500 and £500-800).

The next Elstob & Elstob Jewellery, Watches & Silver Auction on Saturday September 18 includes a rare Arts and Crafts silver three-piece Puritan Maid dressing table set, designed by Kate Harris for William Hutton & Sons Ltd; a lady’s steel Rolex date bracelet watch; a gent’s steel Rolex Explorer bracelet watch; and a good selection of Scandinavian jewellery from designers including Georg Jensen and David Andersen.
