Whitehaven are preparing for a special West Cumbria youth development camp on September 1.

Aimed at Under-14sand Under-16s, it is part of Haven’s new link-up with the Super League club, Hull FC.

Mindful of the need for closer links with the local amateur clubs, Whitehaven have been holding special training session with various age groups over the last few weeks.

The club’s chief executive Andrew Canavan said:” I am delighted with how things have been going, not only with the training sessions but also the feedback we have received from all the clubs who have been down so far.

“These sessions will continue throughout the year, as will the development days, leading up to 2022 when the academy programme will begin in earnest.

“With this being a development academy, it allows the players to train and learn through the day while continuing to train and play for their respective community clubs.

“This removes the need to be travelling up and down the motorway to attend other youth set-ups.”
