Cartmel Racecourse’s longest serving member of staff is looking forward to its first event since the end of COVID-19 restrictions.
The Cartmel Cup takes place over the bank holiday weekend and head groundsman Gary Sharp and his 16-strong team have been planning the event for months.
Gary, 43, of Cark, began work at the racecourse 19 years ago and has been head groundsman for 17 years.
More than 14,000 people are expected to attend the Cartmel Cup this weekend.
It is the first time in two years the event will run and it is among the biggest in the Cumbrian calendar.
Gary said: “This will be the biggest event that we have had for two years. It is the first time there will be no cap on the crowds.
“It is our last race of the year and after the past 18 months I am really looking forward to seeing people happy and having fun.”
The Cartmel Cup will take place on Saturday and the season finale will be on Monday.
