A day of free fitness and wellbeing events are set to take place in Carlisle.

A day of free fitness and wellbeing events are set to take place in Carlisle.

New charity Cumbria Yoga Foundation will bring together 25 leading yoga, meditation and mindfulness leaders in Carlisle city centre on September 11.

Forty-two different classes will take place in studios, wellness spaces and pop-up studios in the city centre.

Yoga Day – Carlisle is free to attend and open to all – no previous experience is necessary and yoga mats can be borrowed on the day. With over 40 different sessions on offer, there is something for everyone.

The event begins at 10am and runs through to 5pm. Look out for the ‘basecamp’ in the city centre with stalls offering wellbeing products, holistic practitioners and a central information point where the team can direct you to activities.

Pop-up spaces and studios have been given by Carlisle City Council, Cumbria County Council, The Lanes Shopping Centre, The Yoga Studio, Carlisle Yoga Rooms and WeCan.

In six locations around the city centre, taster sessions range from beginner’s yoga, meditation, chair yoga and Tai Chi to aerial yoga.

Caroline Robinson, founding chairwoman of Cumbria Yoga Foundation said: “We can’t wait to welcome hundreds of people to the mats again on September 11 for the third Yoga Day – Carlisle.

“The generosity of our community never fails to inspire, and we’re humbled by the support of so many top instructors, studios and local organisations. We’re hoping to see those new to yoga, as well as anyone just wanting to try out a different class or style. Everyone is welcome and with over 40 classes to choose from, you’ll be spoilt for choice.”

Carlisle City Cllr Elizabeth Mallinson, portfolio holder for communities, health and wellbeing said: “We’re delighted to support this event. There has been a lot of pressure on our communities over the past few years and this event provides free support from some of the region’s leading practitioners. Book your place soon – it’s open to all abilities and is a great opportunity to sample new wellbeing activities.”

Free tickets can be booked ahead of the event at cumbriayogafoundation.org/yogaday

The charity is also crowdfunding to enable community yoga, meditation and mindfulness throughout the year.
