Traffic is backing up as the A595 is closed in both directions at Bigrigg following a three-vehicle collision.
Police were called to the incident at about 4.05pm today.
Police and ambulance are attending the scene.
Injuries are being assessed but are not believed to be life-threatening.
The road will remain closed while vehicle recovery takes place and the road is made safe.
Drivers are asked to be mindful of the closure and resulting congestion when planning their journey.
