Young people in Barrow are being given the chance to take part in a free film and media academy
Signal Film and Media has a unique opportunity for 16-19-year-olds to join the 10th year of delivery of the British Film Institute’s Film Academy Course in Barrow.
The course is for lovers of film, games and TV. It provides scope for young people to become part of a real film crew alongside professional mentors making an animation this winter. It is also an opportunity for individuals to find out how to get started with a career in the industry, completely free of charge.
Applications are now open for this team of 20 participants to get to work with industry professionals as part of a crew to learn vital skills and make a short animated film starting mid-October 2021 for a 12-week film production course with a two-day professionally mentored shoot over the Christmas period.
Young people will learn how to write, direct, produce, voice act, shoot and edit in a professional environment.
No prior skills or experience is needed and the academy fits around school and college hours. There will be a mix of online Zoom masterclasses and in-person, socially-distanced workshops and activities that make up the course.
Young people will get a qualification at the end and there will be the chance to apply for a free place at the prestigious residential course at the National Film and Television School.
Deadline for main applications: October 7
