Cumbria’s Marathon Man has raised £1 million for charity over the last five years.
Gary McKee’s latest challenge – 100TOLDN – saw him complete 100 marathons in 100 days, culminating in the London Marathon alongside his son Beau.
It raised over £100,000 for Hospice at Home West Cumbria, bringing his overall total for the charity to £1 million.
The funds raised by Gary have helped Hospice at Home West Cumbria continue providing specialist care and support to patients with life limiting illnesses, enabling them to remain in the comfort of their own homes, surrounded by loved ones.
Donations also help provide emotional support for families and carers, ensuring they are not alone during challenging times.
Hayley McKay, director of funding and communications at Hospice at Home West Cumbria, said: “Reaching £1 million is an absolutely phenomenal achievement, on behalf of everyone at Hospice at Home West Cumbria, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to every single person who has supported Gary’s fundraising journey over the past five years.
“The generosity shown by our community has been extraordinary. Every donation, every message of encouragement and every act of support has helped make this milestone possible.
“As a local charity we simply could not do what we do without our community, and this achievement demonstrates the incredible difference we can make when we come together.
“Gary’s £1 million fundraising milestone represents far more than a number. It reflects thousands of people across West Cumbria rallying behind a shared cause and helping ensure that local families continue to receive vital hospice care and support close to home.
“As Hospice at Home West Cumbria celebrates this landmark achievement, the charity extends its sincere gratitude to Gary, Beau and everyone who has contributed to this extraordinary fundraising journey.”
