A free event will be held in Barrow on Saturday for people to find out about wildlife under threat.
Back On Our Map is a four-year wildlife reintroduction programme for 10 threatened species across south Cumbria and to look at natural and cultural heritage and what has been lost.
The aim is to encourage people to reconnect with nature and play a practical part in bringing back lost or threatened plants, insects and plants.
Its team is inviting everyone to come to Barrow Park for fun, games, arts and crafts, quizzes, plus plenty of nature on display between noon and 3pm.
Led by University of Cumbria, with Morecambe Bay Partnership spearheading community involvement, the project has been made possible through money raised by National Lottery players.
Community team leader Michelle Cooper said: “Being two years into the project, and with COVID restrictions easing, we are really keen to connect with local people in and around Barrow.
“Come along on Saturday, bring the family, and find out how you can get involved. You can sign up to a new volunteer group to take part in a programme of upcoming activities which will include practical tasks, wildlife trips, plant growing training and even arts and crafts or family events.
“Getting involved is a great way to make new friends and help save nature in south Cumbria.
“The project is so inspiring having such a wide range species to work with. From hazel dormice to rare butterflies and aspen trees to rare plants.
“Communities are already working with us across south Cumbria, but we still need more help. The Barrow Park event will provide a chance to meet the team and learn about the project and see what’s been achieved so far.”
