A new exhibition has opened showcasing the work of Cumbrian creatives.
The People’s Gallery at Rosehill, near Whitehaven, features painting, photography, poetry and film submitted by people working across a range of disciplines.
The project grew from an open invitation for submissions across the region and attracted a response that exceeded expectations, said organisers.
Contributors range from people who regularly exhibit their work to those who are sharing it publicly for the first time.
Rosehill Arts Trust said: “A long-standing part of Rosehill’s work has been creating opportunities for people to take part in arts and culture.
“The People’s Gallery builds on that commitment by giving local artists, writers, filmmakers and makers a platform to share their work with audiences and celebrate the creativity that exists across Cumbria.
“We are committed to making arts and culture accessible to all, while supporting the growth and sustainability of the region’s creative sector.”
Alongside the exhibition, the venue’s Art Lab will provide a free creative space for families during the summer holidays, featuring art materials, books and hands-on activities.
Children can also take part in a five-week summer drama club focusing on storytelling, character creation, improvisation, puppet making and theatre skills.
Other family events include a K-Pop Party, while adults can attend workshops and social sessions such as still life painting, sunset painting, life drawing and an art social.
The People’s Gallery runs until August 22.
The venue is open from Wednesday to Saturday between 10am and 3pm, with free admission.
A free drop-in launch event will be held tomorrow, Friday July 24 from 5.30pm to 7pm, where guests can enjoy a complimentary drink and nibbles and meet some of the contributors.
