It was just like old times in the Workington Sunday League when a large crowd watched at Premier Division game at Aspatria.

In days gone by certain clashes in the Sunday League produced enthusiastic and sizeable attendances, rarely repeated in modern times.

League secretary Ron Caffery said: “The Northside visiting secretary said it was a great atmosphere with a load of people watching, which is great for local Sunday football.”

No doubt the same Northside secretary would leave a happy man, too, as his side were 5-1 winners against Sun Inn.

Tommy Whitehead (2), Callum Killick (2) and Jamie Glover scored for the reigning champions with Michael Prescott responding for the Sun Inn.

Deer Orchard were even more decisive as they won 7-1 at Premier Division new boys Glasson Gardeners.

Callum West led the way with a hat-trick and was joined on the score-sheet by Brian Straughton, Luke Graham, Mike Graham and Sam Wright. Josh Patterson replied for the Gardeners.

Dearham were 4-2 winners against Salterbeck thanks to goals from James Langstaff (2), Steven Stoddart and Callum Casson. Bobby Carr and Charlie Shaw were on target for the visitors.

Seaton Rangers also had a two-goal cushion as they won 3-1 at Blue Bell with goals from Kyle Graham (2) and Jordan Hawthorn. Tom Powell was the Blue Bell scorer.

The battle of the two Athletics in Division One finished all square at 1-1 with Lewis Mattinson scoring for the Maryport hosts and Mark Campbell replying for Sun Inn

There were also two goals at Highfield where The Junction were the visitors. But both went to the hosts as Dan Graham and Luke Harrison ensured the points stayed in Cockermouth.

Most emphatic Division One winners were Senhouse who beat hosts Flimby Social 5-2 with Scott Underwood helping himself to a hat-trick. Andrew Brown and Adam Bragg were also on target.

Leo Holliday and Michael Carruthers responded for Flimby.

The first round of the League Cup takes-up the fixtures next Sunday (kick-off 2pm).

The ties are: Glasson Gardeners v Flimby Social (ref Tom Smallwood); Salterbeck v Northside (Mark Kilgour); Dearham v Highfield (Colin Varty); Sun Inn v JJ’s (Stephen Donald); The Junction v Deer Orchard (Will Heywood); Maryport Athletic v Seaton Rangers (Colin Heron); Senhouse v Sun Inn Athletic (Geoff Ellison).
