Paul Marshall, who joined Workington Reds last month to boost an injury-hit squad, has moved on.
The 32-year-old experienced midfielder has joined Wythenshawe from the North West Counties League, linking up with ex-Kendal Town keeper Morgan Baker who signed for the Manchester club two weeks ago.
Reds chairman Dave Bowden had already said that once Reds got through their injury crisis, playing numbers would have to be reduced to stay within budget.
The first team squad had lost nine senior players at one point and manager Chris Willcock had brought in up to seven new faces to shore up the absences.
Two of the injured players returned against 1874 Northwich on Saturday with Conor Tinnion coming on for the last 25 minutes and Dan Wordsworth being an unused sub.
Iyrwah Gooden, who was injured in training last week, was able to train with the squad last night along with two others who have been out for a while.
But Willcock is likely to be still missing six of his squad for tomorrow’s trip to his former club Glossop North End.
He said: “One thing we are not going to do is rush people back and pay the price. They will all be eased back into the squad gradually.”
In his four years at Glossop, Willcock oversaw a league and cup double and an appearance at Wembley in the FA Vase final and is generally regarded as North End’s most successful ever manager.
“I had some wonderful times at Glossop and I am looking forward to seeing people again but the main focus is on getting three more points for Workington.
“We have won seven and drawn three of our first ten games so are still unbeaten. It’s time to reset and go again and turn draws into wins,” he said.
Reds lost the leadership of NPL West in midweek following Mossley’s 3-2 home win over Leek Town. Mossley are level on points but have a slightly better goal difference, and do have a game in hand.
