A project to help homeless youngsters get back on their feet in South Cumbria has been awarded almost £900.
Organisations working with young people noticed that when they arrived for help, they often did not have any belongings or anything to take care of their basic needs.
South Lakes Foyer, Cumbria County Council and Focus Families set up Hug in a Bag to provide the 16 to 24-year-olds with a start-up bundle of bedding and towels.
The items were donated by supermarket Morrisons and a member of the public in the South Lakes who wanted to help.
Morrisons also provided a discount for items, which allowed the organisations to make up five male and five female bags of toiletries.
The team at The South Lakes Foyer along with Emmie Sutherland the Youth Homelessness Officer a at Cumbria County Council and Nicola Jackson from Focus Families successfully applied to Cumbria police and crime commissioner’s property fund and have received £899 to purchase additional bedding and towels along with toiletries and other essential items.
This project also runs in the north of the county and has proven very successful.
