£2,000 available to help communities in Furness

Furness councillors Caroline Airey and Ben Cooper are appealing for residents’ views on where they think their community budget funding should be spent this coming year.

District councillors across South Lakeland each have a member’s allowance of £1,000 per year from the authority to help support local charities, community projects, and good causes in their areas.

Across South Lakes, local councillors have used this money in recent years to support small charities doing great work in their communities, as well as for improving public spaces, such as renovating parks and public gardens, and supporting nearby community transport initiatives.

Ahead of allocating their 2021/22 funding, Caroline and Ben want to hear from residents about how they think this money could be best spent.

Coun Cooper said “There are so many great charities and community projects working across Low and Mid Furness that we want to hear from residents about where they think this money should be spent.

“We were elected to champion people’s priorities, so this is a great chance for people to get in touch and really shape the future of our villages and communities with this funding”.
