A Cumbrian cruise agent has been named the best in the UK.

Jamie Harris has been named the best agent for cruise holidays by the UK travel trade.

Jamie, a sales team manager at Cruise Direct (part of Barrhead Travel) was crowned Cruise Agent of the Year at the prestigious Travel Industry Awards by TTG, hosted by Strictly Come Dancing’s Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly at a glittering awards ceremony, attended by 800 industry figures.

A panel of industry judges said: “We were struck by Jamie’s unwavering standard of customer care, glowing customer testimonials and impressive performance record that boasts a phenomenal 90 per cent repeat business rate.

“We were also impressed to see Jamie’s dedication to promoting a fairer travel industry, thanks to his knowledge of selling LGBTQ+ friendly holidays.”

Jamie Harris of Cruise Direct said: “I’m honoured to have won this award and feel it is a true testament to my passion for travel, cruise and customer service. With the recent relaxation of travel rules, there is a buzz in the air with customers looking to make the most of what is left of 2021.

“There are some fantastic cruising holiday options on offer, from sailing round the Canary Islands, catching the last of the winter sun, to seeing in the New Year on the water, watching the fireworks burst over the New York skyline. Cruising really does have a special ability to combine a mix of unforgettable experiences into one holiday trip.

“The pricing of cruise packages is incredible right now with added value in food, drinks and entertainment – we have seen all-inclusive, two-week cruises for as little as £699 per person.”

TTG editor Sophie Griffiths said: “The Travel Industry Awards by TTG celebrate those travel companies and travel professionals who put customers at the heart of their business, who are most deserving of consumers’ trust, and who have responded to the challenges of the last 12 months by making positive changes to their products, services and corporate cultures.

“With a robust process of judging panels, the Travel Industry Awards by TTG are the toughest to win in the travel sector, and any company which takes home a trophy on the night can be incredibly proud of their achievement.”
