Time running out for groups to apply for BAE Systems grant

Time is running out for charities to apply for money from BAE Systems Submarines’ Give As You Earn scheme.

Every year employees donate directly from their salaries and the money is given to good causes. Last year donations hit almost £20,000.

The deadline for this year’s applications is Friday, October 15.

Oli Wignall, chairman of the scheme’s board, said: “On behalf of all the employees who generously contribute we would really like to support the community in the local area. There are many really dedicated local charities who need our help, and I am proud of the opportunity to support them in this way.”

Recipients need to be in the Barrow travel to work area, normally defined as being between Millom and Morecambe.

Registered charities need to state the amount they are hoping to secure as well as an outline of how the money will be used. The funding cannot be spent on wages or running costs – so specific items required or projects work best.

Applications are matched against a set of criteria and decisions made on funding.

Applications should be made on a headed letter including charity number and attached to a covering email to [email protected]
