A man became stuck thigh-high in mud as the tide rose close to Port Carlisle.
At about 2.30pm yesterday, fire engines from Carlisle East, Wigton, and Workington were called to the rescue and worked with the RNLI to release the man and bring him to safety.
A coastguard helicopter also attended but was not needed.
A statement from Carlisle East Fire Station said: “We would highlight the dangers of mud and quicksand, even if it’s only ankle-deep it can be enough to form a suction around your body rendering you stuck. Please adhere to warning signs, especially around coastal areas where the water conditions change rapidly.”
