A classic County Cup tie at Inglethorpe Park last night produced 11 goals before hosts Cleator Moor Celtic beat Penrith.
It finished 6-5 after the sides had been locked at 4-4 on the completion of 90 minutes.
That represented a fine effort by the North West Counties League side after having defender Jordan Little sent off on 31 minutes for a last man foul.
Errors punctuated the game after Penrith had taken the lead on five minutes.
The equaliser didn’t come until just before half-time when Celtic defender Jamie Glover headed home a corner.
It was Celtic who went in front on 54 minutes with a 30-yarder from Tom Ward but Penrith were quickly on terms within two minutes.
Glover restored Celtic’s lead with another header but Penrith quickly levelled with a long-range effort.
On 70 minutes Penrith edged ahead again and it seemed as though the effort from the 10 men of Celtic would not be enough.
But within three minutes Penrith had Connor Shields sent off for a second yellow card offence and it was 10 against 10.
A brilliant individual goal 10 minutes from time by Jay Wetherill put Celtic level again and no-one could find a winner in the 90 minutes.
Twelve minutes into the first period of extra time Penrith went ahead again but it was Celtic who finished best to win it.
Glover completed a hat-trick of headers in the final period of extra time and four minutes from the end, with penalties looming, an acrobatic bicycle kick from Wetherill won the game.
The Penrith scorers were Shields (2), Mike Williamson, Richie Arnold and Max Brown.
