Emergency services were called after a man fell 10 metres into a Lake District waterfall twice and was stuck for an hour.
Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team, the fire service, an air ambulance and land ambulance were called to the incident at Aira Force yesterday.
It was suspected that the casualty had broken his arms and legs.
The mountain rescue team lowered a team member down to the casualty to stabilise and assess him.
A rope system was rigged and the casualty was raised onto dry land.
A Patterdale spokesman added: “The very cold casualty was then assessed by medics on scene for hypothermia and suspected leg and arm fractures.
“The casualty was stabilised and then transported in a team Land Rover to a land ambulance in a nearby car park.
“The team would like to thank the Cumbria Fire and Rescue service, NWAS and the Great North Air Ambulance for some great team work to quickly resolve the incident. We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.”
