A decision will be made on whether approval is required to demolish a former hotel.
Day Cummins Limited is planning to demolish the main Grove Court Hotel building in Cleator allowing the site to be redeveloped.
The three detached bungalows will be retained and a two-storey annexe will be converted into a single home.
Grove Court Hotel has stood since the early 20th century when it was built as a Roman Catholic Infant School.
The interior was converted in the late 1950s and early 1960s so that it could operate as a hotel. Grove Court Hotel suffered significant damage in a fire in August 2019 and has stood empty since.
It was on sale prior to the fire in 2018 and was still on the market in November 2019, an offer was progressing but fell through.
A separate application for the conversion of the annexe building said that plans to redevelop the site are an asset to the community as the Grove Court Hotel would otherwise stand empty and become an eyesore.
The applicant said: “The redundant building will continue to deteriorate and after two years of marketing no sale has been achieved. The conversion to form a dwelling will have a positive impact on the site and the area and on a Brownfield site.”
An asbestos report will be undertaken and provided to the contractor with all asbestos material removed before demolition commences.
