An eyewitness has described seeing a vehicle travelling on the wrong side of the M6 before it was involved in a crash.
A female driver said she was driving north on the M6 and saw a vehicle travelling towards her on the motorway. She then exited the M6 at Shap, before rejoining the motorway a short time later.
“It passed me and I reported it to police,” she said.
“I came back from picking up my kids from school and the car had crashed. About 20 minutes ago the air ambulance was hovering, trying to land on the southbound carriageway.”
