Hear Barbara Dickson in her own words at Carlisle show

Legendary Scottish entertainer Barbara Dickson says she can’t wait to be back in Carlisle for a special intimate show next week.

The singer-songwriter starts a short run of performances with a difference at the Old Fire Station on Wednesday.

The show, one of just four on this tour, is based around her recent autobiography, A Shirt Box Full Of Songs, which traces her life from growing up in Fife in the Fifties to becoming the biggest selling Scottish solo artists of the Seventies and Eighties.

Barbara will tell her story followed by a Q&A session and play two of her songs. She will sign copies of the book at the end of the evening.

“I am looking forward to returning to Carlisle and visiting the Old Fire Station,” said Barbara. “It’s been a great joy to be performing again recently after so long and to be able to talk about my life and work in Carlisle will be most enjoyable for me.

“I am preparing a couple of songs to sing with my guitar at the end of the event too. I look forward to the 10th and seeing Carlisle friends again.”

Having had huge hits such as I Know Him So Well and Caravan Song, Barbara turned to another career – acting – and appeared in musical theatre including Blood Brothers and Spend, Spend, Spend.

But her time onstage led to complete exhaustion from which she fought hard to recover in the 1980s and 1990s.

Hear her story in her own words next Wednesday at the Old Fire Station.
