Windscale were favoured with a home draw against Silksworth in the first round of the Alan Hood Charity Cup and responded with a comfortable 5-1 victory.
It was Silksworth who were first out of the blocks taking the lead as early as the 4th minute.
Reece Blakey worked himself into a one on one position with home keeper Ian Studholme, who parried Blakey’s initial effort but was unable to prevent the strikers’ second attempt going in off the post.
Windscale levelled the scores five minutes later when a free kick, delivered by Lewis Jolly, was initially headed away from goal, but Reece Fretwell volleyed the clearance into the back of the visitors’ net.
Both teams were looking to add to the score line with the referee well in control of any over physical challenges.
It was the home side that gained the upper hand with 26 minutes on the clock. Laurie Black surged into the Silksworth half before hitting a long-range effort which took a deflection off a defender and looped over the head of the oncoming keeper into the goal.
Black was also involved in the third Windscale goal. He chased a long ball down the right and his square pass from near the goal line found Jolly who tapped the ball into the net to give the home side a 3-1 advantage at the end of the first half.
It was a lively start for the second period with Silksworth attempting to reduce the arrears and get back into the game.
However, Studholme, the Windscale custodian dealt comfortably with anything directed towards the Windscale goal and gradually the home side began to look more comfortable on the ball.
It was down to two of the Windscale substitutes to complete the scoring.
With 17 minutes remaining a free kick was delivered by Ryan Fitzwilliam onto the head of Kieren Fraser who nodded it beyond the reach of Jamie Chappel the Silksworth keeper.
It was Sam Thompson who completed the scoring, pushing the ball over the line following a scramble in the Silksworth six-yard box to complete a pleasing performance by the home team.
