Round five of the JJ’s Workington Pool A League ended with two teams sharing the lead.

JJ’s B went level on points with their club rivals JJ’s A as they overcame struggling Packhorse A in a final frame shoot-out.

With the match tied at 4-4 it was JJ’s B’s Martyn Fisher and Geoff Banton who held their nerve to earn the 5-4 win.

While that was happening JJs A fell to their first defeat of the season away at the Grapes.

The hosts were also undefeated and got off to a flier thanks to Tony Elliot who helped give them a 4-0 frame advantage.

JJ’s A rallied to take the next three but couldn’t stop the Grapes winning the eighth frame to clinch the match which finished 5-4.

The Vets have made an encouraging start to the season as they notched up their fourth win away at struggling Station Rd D.

In a close encounter Gavin Parkinson and Andy Moore proved the difference on the night securing key frames as the Vets ran out 5-4 winners.

Harrington Legion’s Graeme Renney kicked off a five frame winning streak as they defeated Station Rd B 7-2.

The B league saw half the teams go joint top in what is shaping-up to be the closest contested promotion chase in the league’s history.

Both Lifeboat A and B teams enjoyed narrow victories.

Lifeboat B’s Bobby Carter and Ian Metherell secured the vital eighth  frame as they won 5-4. Lifeboat A found themselves with a tied game but from 3-3 it was Lifeboat A who ground out the next two frames as they overcome Seaton Royal Oak 5-4.

Frankie Peel helped spark Grapes A into life as they came from 2-0 down to win the final seven frames as they brushed aside the Railway 7-2.

The Packhorse Pooligan’s rallied late in the match to win 5-4 whilst Skinny Jimmy’s earned their second win of the season beating Chasers 6-3.
