Lace up your trainers and get your antlers on for next month’s Reindeer Run in aid of the only children’s hospice in Cumbria.
Primary schools in north Cumbria are being urged to sign up for the festive fundraiser in time to receive a pack from Jigsaw, Cumbria’s children’s hospice.
Each pupil will get their own set of antlers as well as a sponsorship form but it’s up to the schools themselves to decide what to do for their run.
It could be a lap of the school field, a Christmas-themed obstacle course around the playground, or a winter walk around your town or village.
But, since it wouldn’t be a Reindeer Run without reindeer, all runners must wear their antlers.
The runs can be held any time in December and if a school is a super fundraiser and raises an average of £10 per pupil, all runners will receive a medal.
St Catherine’s Catholic Primary School in Penrith is one of the schools taking part next month.
Headteacher Angela Hill said: “The school has been a supporter of the Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw for a number of years.
“We are delighted to be taking part in the Reindeer Run and raising funds for this amazing charity.
“Our Ambassadors will be designing special courses to include the Trim Trail, playground and school field; the extra challenges will boost the sponsorship and everyone is a winner!”
Mark Ashton, headteacher of Warwick Bridge School, said: “Warwick Bridge School are proud to be part of the Reindeer Run as it gives our pupils the opportunity to help children less fortunate than themselves.
“It is important for all of us to realise that we can help each other in a variety of ways and the Reindeer Run is a fun, energetic and all-encompassing activity for every child to take part in.
“Our participation in the Reindeer Run is an excellent activity that combines the excitement of Christmas with its true meaning of helping one another as much as possible.”
Raughton Head CE Primary School said: “We chose to take part in the fundraiser as it is a good way to keep fit as well as raise money for a charity that is local to us. Every year the school council chooses a charity to support and we liked the idea of combining the two.”
Eleanor Viney, Jigsaw’s fundraising manager, said: “Our Reindeer Run promises not only to be a really fun event for schools to take part in this December, but a challenge that will also raise vital funds to allow Jigsaw to continue to provide the incredible care it does to children and young people living with a life-limiting illness.
“There’s still time to sign up and the team here at Jigsaw would love to hear from schools across Cumbria who’d like to take part in this brilliant new fundraiser.”
To ensure they receive the fundraising packs schools must sign up by Monday November 15.
Jigsaw, based in Durdar Road, Carlisle, offers day to day care, support and activities to children and young people living with a life limiting illness from across Cumbria and south west Scotland.
