Workington’s Station Road B extended their Division One lead to six points in the L&L Property Contractors Snooker League with an assured 4-1 victory against Division Two opponents, The Rack Shack.
Even though the win ended in a sweeping fashion for the Station B side the early exchanges saw the league leaders having to fight hard to gain their advantage.
Stephen Harrison started the match with the performance of the season so far as he defeated Station B’s current county champion and league century break maker, Kevin Kirkham on the black.
Frame two also ended on the black but with victory tipping Station B’s way it was Simon Frazer who levelled the match score for 1-1.
The next frame delivered a further improvement for Station B with Alan McLeod winning on the last few balls to put his side 2-1 up.
At this point in the match, and with momentum building, Station B quickly made it 3-1 with the help of 35 break from captain Stephen O’Hagan and with the victory now secured Peter O’Hagan ended the match in style with an evening’s best contribution of 44 to put his team on an impressive 21 points. Whitehaven’s Rack Shack sit third in Division Two on five points.
In the all-Division Two clash between Workington Veterans Club B and Maryport Social Club the match started with an outstanding display and with the associated confidence reverberating throughout the team the Workington side motored to a 5-0 home win.
No sooner had the match started Paul Vickers produced breaks of 33 and 30 to trounce his opponent, and with Shane Evitts delivering a thumping victory in frame two Vets B led 2-0.
Frame three proved to be a different prospect however and even though Vets B captain Geoff Banton trailed for almost the entire frame he was first over the line thanks to a pot on the final ball to make it 3-0.
The next frame saw Richard Kirkham limit his opponent to just four points with the Vets B cueist making it 4-0 and with team-mate Sal Cakmak beating the in-form Gary Miller in the last Vets B maintained their second place in Division Two on ten points. Maryport Social prop up Division Two on three points.
Workington Golf Club leap-frogged fellow Division One opponents Workington Veterans Club A on the back of a 4-1 home win and are now positioned third on fourteen points with the Vets dropping down into fourth on twelve points.
An unfortunate in-off in frame one led to the Golf Club’s Ryan Ismay winning the first but as Vets A captain Kevin Basnett held off a late flurry in frame two parity was achieved. This, however, proved to be a good as it would get for the Vets A side with Phil Sorfleet, Mark Brasted and Mark Cowen all proving victorious with relative ease.
Finally, Workington’s Station Road A delivered a 3-2 home win against Division Two opponents in Workington’s United Club. However after leading 3-0 they ended the match feeling they could have got more.
The Division One side started tremendously with straightforward wins from Tom Thompson, Mike Walker and Darren Lawson but as United’s Clive Lister broke the momentum to make it 3-1, teammate and captain Andrew Mitchelhill followed it up nicely with a last frame win to end the match on a positive United Club note.
Station Road remain bottom of Division One on nine points with United Club top of Division Two on eleven points.
