Firefighters who tackled a fire that spread from the bedroom of a property to the landing and bathroom say it is lucky that no one was injured in the blaze.
At 9am this morning firefighters from Wigton and Aspatria attended the fire at Burnside in Wigton. On arrival they saw thick black smoke coming from the property and requested the assistance of firefighters in Silloth.
All three crews worked together to tackle the fire that had started in the back bedroom of the property and spread onto the landing and into the bathroom. The whole upstairs of the property was engulfed in black smoke.
Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels and thermal imaging cameras to bring the fire under control.
Once the fire was extinguished, more firefighters entered the property to remove any remaining materials that were involved in the fire. Firefighters then removed the ceiling to ensure it hadn’t spread into the loft space.
A statement from Wigton Fire Station said: “Luckily nobody was harmed in this incident, which is thought to have started by smoking materials. Please can we ask everyone to be extra safe when smoking inside a property and also check smoke alarms regularly.”
