A third successive League defeat without scoring has dropped Barrow into dangerous territory.
The Bluebirds lost 1-0 at Sutton United and are now fifth bottom just four points above the drop zone.
By contrast David Ajiboye fourth goal of the season on 16 minutes kept the hosts firmly in the promotion picture in sixth place just a point behind Exeter City in third.
The visitors haven’t won in nine League games yet they left for home feeling they should have been taking at least a point with them.
They won fifteen corners during the afternoon and in the last ten minutes it really was backs to the wsall by the hosts but they got there with some stout defending and one top-rated save from keeper Dean Bouzanis.
Sutton had started on the front foot and Will Randall had an early chance but he couldn’t turn home a cross from Ajiboye at the near post.
Barrow also had the chance to score the first goal after Josh Kay slid in Offrande Zanzala, but when looking a certain scorer he could only shoot straight at Bouzanis.
It proved a crucial miss because almost immediately Sutton grabbed the lead.
Rob Milsom reacted quickly when he sprayed a free-kick out to Ajiboye on the right wing. He cut inside past two Barrow players before firing a low curling shot just inside the far post.
Zanzala had another opportunity when he was sent clear but he could only steer the ball across goal and wide of the far post.
Sutton had a couple of chances, the first after Barrow defender Matty Platt had been caught in possession and the second from the subsequent corner when Isaac Olaofe hooked the ball just wide.
The visitors made a half time change with Remeao Hutton replacing Jordan Stevens, but Sutton had the first chance when Kenny Davis shot over from twenty yards.
Barrow keeper Paul Farman had two saves to make in quick succession from Ajiboye \and Omar Bugie.
There could have been a second yell for Bugiel when he brought down James Jones as the defender brought the ball forward but despite Barrow protests the referee kept his cards in his pocket.
As a consequence Barrow skipper Ollie Banks was booked for the persistence of his protests.
Barrow had been backed by 164 travelling supporters who gave strong vocal encouragement as their side dominated the final ten minutes.
Forman joined the attack for a succession of late corners, but Sutton held firm with Banks and Mark Ellis seeing efforts blocked while Platt’s header was scrambled away at the foot of the post.
