After a bout of Cup matches recently Cumberland County League fixtures were the order of the day with five of the scheduled games being completed.
The Workington Development v Northbank and Workington Athletic against Maryport Athletic matches were both called-off.
In the Premier Division the game at Gosforth against Cockermouth was in doubt due to the road closure at Calderbridge in the morning. However, due to good communications between the clubs, the problem was overcome around noon allowing the fixture to go ahead.
It was Gosforth who claimed the points in a close 2-1 win. Ellison Holgate and Sam Tallentire scored the goals for Gosforth, with Conor Cooke reducing the arrears for the visitors.
The Wigton Harriers v Carlisle City Development game also ended in a 2-1 victory for the home side. Tom Gosling and Jonny Studholme notched the goals for the Harriers, with City’s Arron Roberts on target to ensure the result was in doubt until the final whistle.
In Division One UniSun Athletic entertained Mirehouse in a high-scoring game, UniSun came out on top 7-3. A Shane Dorward hat trick led the way for UniSun with Kian Maker, Luke Ruddick, Mike Williamson and Alex Park completing the total for the home side. Mirehouse replied through Ryan Smith and the Dryden brothers, Bradley and Nathan.
There was another high-scoring game when Whitehaven Miners edged neighbours Whitehaven Amateurs 5-3. Due to the condition of the Miners pitch, the game was transferred to the all-weather facility at St Benedict’s School.
The Miners goals were shared between Lewis Park, Paul McNally, Jamie Thursby, Adam Smith and Ryan McCourt. A Will Starkey double and a Joe Martin strike kept the Amateurs in the game.
Windscale Reserves took a 2-0 half time lead in their game against Cleator Moor Celtic Reserves with goals from Andrew Begbie and Kieran Fraser. A further goal by Daniel McAdam in the second period sealed a 3-0 victory for the home side.
