More than £500 was raised for Alzheimer’s Society by Roz Sluman’s Evolution at The Source last month.
The event, on November 26, saw the venue decked out in Alzheimer’s Society banners and despite Storm Arwen brewing outside, was packed.
A problem with the lift meant the musicians had to carry their own gear upstairs too.
Roz Sluman, who has played at all Feel The Blues gigs – organised by Graeme Mcgrory since 2015 to raise awareness of how music helps those who are affected by dementia decided to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Society because of a family connection.
Roz has also seen how much Graeme Mcgrory’s partner Ann still loves music despite being affected by Alzheimer’s.
The show was opened by Boathouse Blonde, from New Orleans and now based in Carlisle, who played a selection of her originals and a few well known songs to join in on.
Roz’s Evolution played an A to Z of sax anthems. From Baker Street to Peter Gunn and many, many more. Roz shared lead vocals and the chilly night was soon warmed up by the room full of people dancing to anthems everyone knew.
Five raffle prizes were won:
Chasin’ The Train donated a signed copy of Dead Man’s Handle.
Feel The Blues donated 2 tickets for next year’s gig. Won by Vanessa McGowan.
Hardwicke Circus donated 2 tickets for Brickyard gig on December 17.
Kings Head donated a voucher
The Source Collective donated a voucher for 2 tickets.
The Source also waived hire charge to help Alzheimer’s Society. It is open to support local music from Thursday until Saturday.
Including the £535 raised by tickets, donations and raffles at The Source and Feel The Blues events Cumbrian music lovers in Carlisle, Cockermouth and Maryport have raised £2,122.04 for Alzheimer’s Society this year.
