The 2021 Marmalade Awards raised more than £22,000 for charity.

Some parts of the awards and festival – normally held at Dalemain – had to transform into an at home event due to coronavirus.

It raised £22,670 for Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland.

Lady Elizabeth Leeming, president of Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland, said: ‘The Dalemain Marmalade Awards & Festival have been consistently generous to Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland since Jane Hasell-McCosh put her inspired idea into practice in 2005, with over £250,000 raised for the charity to date.

“When there is often much to worry us in the news, how wonderful to have a good story – to know that from numerous marmalade entries to the 2021 awards, funds have been raised that will contribute significantly to this comprehensive local palliative care service.

“To transport and judge the marmalade entries, in spite of various challenges such as COVID and winter storms, took a lot of ingenuity and hard work.

“All those involved with Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland would like to express their great gratitude to those who have helped raise an amazing sum, that will provide support and help to many patients and their families in our area.”

Jane Hasell-McCosh, founder of the World’s Original Marmalade Awards, said ‘We are delighted to support Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland once more.

“Many people have taken part in the competition which is the only way to raise so much money and it has been wonderful to present this cheque.”

Entrants could also choose to nominate their local hospice, which raised over £2,000.

The donation also launches the 2022 Marmalade Awards and Festival.

Entries can be sent to Dalemain Mansion from Tuesday January 4 to Friday February 11.

Winners will be notified after this date, and the awards will be presented at the Marmalade Festival at Dalemain on Saturday May 14.

The awards take place with the support of Fortnum & Mason, Rathbones, Thursday Cottage and Lycetts.
