Workington Reds’ game against City of Liverpool this afternoon has been called off after an early pitch inspection.
The Liverpool side use the Vauxhall Motors pitch at Ellesmere Port and the report this morning said it was waterlogged.
The decision was announced in time to prevent Reds from travelling south and leaves them with another blank Saturday – the second in a row.
Manager Chris Willcock said: “We will do some training and then I will go and watch a game. Obviously we wanted to play but we just have to deal with it.”
They did play in mid-week, when a 2-2 home draw with Bootle prevented them from going back on top of NPL West.
Marine still lead by a point with two games in hand, and they will catch up one of those today when they host Ramsbottom.
Warrington Rylands can overtake Reds into second place and they entertain Newcastle Town.
Workington hope to get back into action next Saturday at Borough Park when they entertain Kidsgrove Athletic.
Reds had started their unbeaten start to the season with a 1-0 win at Kidsgrove, a hard-earned success which had suggested the hosts would be up there challenging.
But that has not materialised and they are currently becalmed in mid-table some 15 points behind the Reds.
