10 areas in Cumbria with highest coronavirus infection rate

Cumbria still has a coronavirus infection rate significantly below the national average despite a sharp rise in new Omicron cases.

The latest data – for the week ending December 11 – there were 1,484 new cases in the county giving it an infection rate of 296.9 per 100,000.

The number of Omicron cases, however, is rising rapidly since the first case was discovered on November 30. The county is now seeing 100 new Omicron cases a day, with 270 in total as of yesterday.

Below shows the areas in Cumbria with the highest infection rate, with a darker colour indicating a higher rate of infection:

Here are the areas in Cumbria with the highest rate of coronavirus infection. The number of cases in the seven-day period ending on December 11 is accompanied by the rate per 100,000 in brackets:

  • Parkside – 38 (581.0 per 100,000)
  • Hensingham, Hillcrest & Aikbank – 56 (566.3 per 100,000)
  • Kendal Town & Greenside – 39 (458 per 100,000)
  • Mirehouse, Kells & Woodhouse – 45 (453 per 100,000)
  • Thornhill, Gosforth & Seascale – 38 (440.7 per 100,000)
  • Egremont & Moor Row – 34 (438.7 per 100,000)
  • Windermere South & Staveley – 35 (423.3 per 100,000)
  • Barrow Central – 27 (412.2 per 100,000)
  • Cleator Moor, Frizington & Ennerdale – 48 (411.8 per 100,000)
  • Askam & Dalton North – 25 (402.1 per 100,000)
