Army of volunteers help with 10,000 COVID jabs in North Cumbria NHS’ biggest vaccine operation

NHS teams across north Cumbria delivered their biggest weekend of vaccines ever.

An army of volunteers helped make the big boost so successful, the NHS said.

Ed Tallis, director of primary care for NHS North Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Our teams have just been brilliant. We have asked a lot of them with a very quick turnaround and they stood up huge clinics with very little notice.

“We had primary care teams calling in patients on Thursday and Friday last week and very busy sessions at their vaccine hubs at the weekend.

“On top of that we had our community pharmacies which can be booked through the national booking system and many of them taking walk-ins too.

“It has been phenomenal, and I want to say thank you to everyone who is working hard to protect our community.”

You can find out more about how and where to access a covid vaccine here: https://northcumbriaccg.nhs.uk/covidvaccine

You may also be called in by your GP Practice to special sessions.

As well as booking through the national booking system here: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/

More sessions are planned this week at pharmacies and by the teams running your family doctors’ surgeries who will be calling patients, and inviting them to book in for their vaccination, so please keep an eye out for calls and texts.

  • Everyone over the age of 18 is eligible for the booster so long as your second jab was three months ago (91 days)
  • You must be 28 days clear of COVID
  • We are keen to see people who need first and second vaccines
