Workington Reds boss Chris Willcock believes supporters will see the best of his first club signing over the second half of the season.
Nico Evangelinos followed Willcock from Ramsbottom this season but his Reds career has been plagued by injury.
He suffered a quad injury in the FA Cup replay at Marine within the first fortnight of the season and it’s been a stop-start process since then.
Reds have reached the halfway stage of the 38-match campaign and Evangelinos has only made five starts with four brief substitute appearances. But he has managed five goals for the club in those limited appearances.
“Three of those have come in the last two games and I think we saw with those just what Nico is about.
“He scores goals, getting into good positions and certainly that’s what he did against Bootle and against Kidsgrove.
“It’s been very frustrating for Nico not being able to play regularly because of injury as he’s never missed as much football in his career.
“He’s going to be like a new signing over the second half of the season so I’m just hoping that he stays clear of any further injuries.
“Our problems with injuries have been well documented and even on Saturday we had six players missing through one reason or another,” said Willcock.
Of those six, Louis Rowe has a long term injury; Scott Allison is recovering from a shoulder injury while Charlie Bowman has been ill, but not with COVID. Ruben Jerome was suspended, Sam Smith at a wedding and Ceiran Casson was training with his new job.
At least Smith and Casson should be back in contention for Reds next game at Kendal on Monday, December 27.
