Financial education sessions designed to inspire young people to have a positive relationship with money are set to be delivered at schools across south Cumbria by a leading accountancy firm.
JF Hornby & Co has agreed to support Build My Skills, a long-standing initiative that works to educate and inspire young people throughout their school life.
The sessions will be held next year as part of a structured series of events organised by the Furness Education and Skills Partnership (FESP).
Managing director of JF Hornby & Co, Paul Hornby, said: “We are involved in the community on many levels, especially via the JF Hornby Foundation, through which we support many local organisations and sports clubs.
“We have been keen for some time to work with schools to help children to begin to understand money and how they can have a positive relationship with it.
“Working with the Build My Skills team will allow us to have that conversation with children from a young age and to carry it through to secondary school.
“We’re really looking forward to getting started and are delighted to be working alongside the fantastic team at FESP as their partners in financial education.”
The Build My Skills programme involves upwards of 20 schools.
Sessions covering a variety of areas designed to equip and inspire young people are held over the course of the school year. Other businesses involved include BAE Systems, 32West, Oxley Developments, the NHS, GSK, Cumbria Community Police, Barrow Raiders and Barrow AFC.
Caroline Vernon of FESP, said: “For the last seven years we have had the pleasure of working alongside some fantastic schools and businesses to deliver the Build My Skills initiative.
“It is a showcase of what can be achieved using the power of collaboration and when the public or private sectors join forces.
“So many young lives have been positively influenced by the programme and that is thanks, in no small part, to our business partners. I am very pleased to have a company with the reputation of JF Hornby on board for 2022.”
The sessions will be delivered across selected primary, all secondary schools plus at the Pupils Referral Unit by Paul and his team.
