A memorial to the people who died when Maryport was bombed during World War Two will be unveiled.
The town was bombed on July 21 1940, killing seven people and destroying the British School on High Street.
Town mayor Peter Kendall will unveil the plaque, on South Quay, at 11am tomorrow, January 19.
Those who were killed were:
- Margaret Ann Costin, 59, at 2 Well Lane
- Robert Thomason, 68, at 13 Well Lane
- William Milligan, 72, at 14 Well Lane
- Jessie Harrison, 26, at 10 High Street
- Sarah Harrison, 55, at 10 High Street
- Joseph Howard, 60, at 10 High Street
- Sarah Ann Howard, 62, at 10 High Street
A statement from the town council said: “Readers of the memorial are invited to look towards Maryport and imagine the aircraft flying over from north to south as it released its payload.
“A shocking and catastrophic event for those who remember. The plaque is a memorial to those killed in this tragic event.”
