Barrow Raiders have re-signed lively winger Brett Carter following a confident stint during pre-season training.
The 32-year-old, who started playing for Barrow in 2008, has subsequently played for Workington Town and Whitehaven.
His most productive spell was with Town, clocking up 140 appearances with 49 tries and 28 goals between 2009 and 2016.
After rejoining his home-town club Carter said: “I couldn’t be happier to sign back on. I’ve had a little bit of time away from the game and I missed it massively.
“Thanks to Stacky (Jarrad Stack) for suggesting contacting Cresta and to Paul, Steve Neale and Andy Gaffney for giving me the opportunity.
“It’s going to be really tough breaking into the squad. It’s not the biggest but one of the most talented I’ve been a part of and I’m looking forward to how far this team can go.
“Personally, I’m just trying hard to improve as a player so when the chance comes I take it. I’m also hoping Tee will lend me his boots one game so I can run around the defence like he does!
“I think I’m only a few games off 200, so that would be an added bonus if I could reach that milestone.”
Players’ director Andy Gaffney said: “Brett asked to come down and train with us and has more than proven his worth in pre-season and in the friendly games.
“He has never missed a session and has worked very hard and bought into everything we are doing.
“It was an easy decision in the end to offer him a contract for the year after all the hard work he put in and he is a great player and bloke to have around the squad.”
Barrow Raiders return to action this Sunday, February 13, at home to Newcastle Thunder.
